HOSTS Chicken Inn were left to rue the failure to turn their dominance into goals after they were held to a goalless draw by Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders Caps United at Barbourfields Stadium yesterday afternoon.

This was the GameCocks’ fifth draw of the season in six games, but their coach Prince Matore remains optimistic that his charges will soon turn the corner.

“It was unfortunate, we attacked, we did everything, we scored but we did not get the three points,” Matore said.

“We will keep on working hard and the boys are looking sharp and it’s looking good,” he added.

The GameCocks had a Michael Charamba effort ruled out for offside on the hour mark following some good work by second half substitute Clive Augusto.

Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe admitted that his team’s game was below par for the better part of the match but was content with the point gained away from home.

“I thought it was a good game of football and both sets of players applied themselves well. I feel a bit disappointed because I thought we were a bit lethargic in everything thing we did and did not play with the right kind of intensity and, therefore, our movements became predictable,” said Chitembwe.

The visitors did play second fiddle to the hosts from the onset but the hosts’ attackers either took turns to fluff good opportunities or ran out of ideas in the final third.

The introduction of former Highlanders hardman Adrian Silla saw Caps United become more of an attacking threat, but it was a little too late.

Caps United keeper Tonderai Mateyaunga produced a point-blank save to deny Chicken Inn forward Brian Muza with 10 minutes left on the clock after the left-footed striker had been sent through by Augusto to ensure a share of the spoils.

But a point away from home against last season's runners up was by no means a bad result for Caps United as they maintained their position at the top.
