Rough patch continues for Black Rhinos

ARMY side Black Rhinos’ struggles continued after they were held to a goalless draw by Herentals in a pulsating match at Baobab Stadium yesterday.

It was Chauya Chipembere’s fifth game without a win since their 1–0 win over Cranborne Bullets on the first day of the league season.

Since then Rhinos have lost three matches and drawn twice, thus putting pressure on veteran coach Stanford Stix Mutizwa, who is leading a rebuilding exercise after the club lost almost the entire squad during the off season.

Rhinos do not have a home this season after Vhengere and Sakubva Stadium were condemned and they hoped to use Chinhoyi Stadium which is still undergoing renovations, thus they ended up using Baobab as their home this weekend.

Mutizwa said he was not under any kind of pressure following the draw against The Students.

“I am not feeling any pressure because we are coming from a loss and now we have drawn. However, this was a home game and so it was a must win game. I am happy with the way the guys have performed. I am worried now with the fact we are not scoring,” he said after the match.

Herentals dominated the exchanges in the early stages and were unlucky not to have taken an early lead when Prince Chama failed to connect properly a Tinotenda Benza cross in the 10th minute, his effort hitting the side net.

Blessing Majarira had an opportunity to break the deadlock moments later getting to an end of Milton Chimedza through pass but shot straight into the hands of Onisimo Matava in goals for the army side.

Matava also denied Tinotenda Benza after he hit a close range shot.

Black Rhinos had their chances as the game wore on with Migos Svinurai and Steady Mudzengerere forcing Tafadzwa Chikosi to make some fine saves from range.

Black Rhinos started the second half brightly with Sylon Chikwerengwe missing the goal by a few inches.

Substitute Tafadzwa Jimu came close to giving Herentals a lead with his first touch of the game from a Chama cross but Matava saved the day for Black Rhinos. Action swung from end to end but there was nothing to separate the two teams.

“I am not disappointed about the draw because Rhinos have been a very difficult opponent for us for a long time in the league and also playing away and managing a draw is quite good for us. A fair result for me but not the best result for the team, which came about because of our failure to convert chances,” Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva said.
