Kombi drivers languish in jail for kidnapping cop

The court heard that the complainant observed their commuter omnibus picking passengers at an undesignated point at the corner of Robert Mugabe and Julius Nyerere streets.

Two Harare kombi drivers have been further remanded in custody on charges of kidnapping a traffic police officer on patrol.

Anywork Simbe (30) and Brighton Nyamukanda (30) appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo.

The court heard that the complainant observed their commuter omnibus picking passengers at an undesignated point at the corner of Robert Mugabe and Julius Nyerere streets.

She boarded the vehicle while a colleague followed at a distance.

When she identified herself and placed the vehicle under arrest, the accused allegedly sped off with her.

The court heard Simbe drove to a stop near Highlands shops, where both men held the complainant and threw her out.

They allegedly stole her wallet containing US$396, identification documents, and cards before speeding off.

The total value stolen is US$396, and nothing has been recovered.
