A sales representative allegedly siphoned US$ 5 540 from his employer through unauthorised priced reductions in a well-coordinated scheme that went on for over a year.
Tapiwa Matibini from Agricon Equipment Private Limited was granted US$ 100 bail by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo last week and advised not to interfere with State witnesses until the matter is finalised.
Prosecutors said on October 7 2025, the complainant received a tip off that there the accused and his accomplices were defrauding the company by undervaluing products on invoices.
The court heard that the complainant set a trap by putting a mark on a 75 Horse Power Clutch and then sent someone who posed as a potential buyer.
The decoy customer was attended at Agricon Equipment by the accused accomplice’s Tineyi Gombedza, who stated that the equipment was out of stock before referring the customer to a nearby competitor.
After the incident, the complainant engaged the services of Advisory Auditors to conduct a full audit at their company, Agricon Equipment Private Limited.
The audit discovered that out of the US$42 999 that was stolen from the company, Matibini had personally stolen US$5,540-00 between June 6 2024 and October 15 this year by means of conducting unauthorized price reductions in the company system.
A police report was made on November 18, 2025 leading to their arrest.
