Police quiz Chinese national for attempted murder

Marconati recently wrote to Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga citing delays in probing the attempted murder issue.

Police in Bulawayo have reportedly opened investigations into attempted murder allegations leveled against Chinese national Li Song.

On Thursday last week, Li had her warned and cautioned statement recorded at Donnington Police Station, marking the beginning of investigations into the matter reported by her former business partner Francesco Marconati under case number CR43/01/24.

The duo used to be co-directors of Eagle Italian Shoes and Leather among other companies before she was booted out on allegations of fraud and money-laundering.

Marconati recently wrote to Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga citing delays in probing the attempted murder issue.

In his letter, Marconati insinuated that Li was enjoying protection from police and prosecution authorities.

He added that his life and son were at risk as they were allegedly being trailed by strangers in unmarked vehicles following their expose of Li’s externalization and money-laundering scam.

Part of his letter to Matanga read: “I wrote to the officer -in-charge Donnington Police Station, Bulawayo requesting that the case l had reported for attempted murder against Li Song be transferred to CID Homicide Harare.

“I stated my reasons in the letter, mainly being that my life and that of my son is under threat and that since all witness statements had been collected, and that accused person has on numerous occasions managed to wriggle her way out of police investigations through name dropping of high -ranking government officials based in Harare.

"As such, if the matter was to be transferred to Harare, it meant that when (the) accused person tries to play her usual cards, then any such claims would quickly be brought to the fingered authorities and handled without delay.”

But, police in Bulawayo insisted on handling the matter assigned to one Detective Gadzai.

Marconati has been locked in a long-running legal dispute with Li after he accused her of looting millions of United States dollars of company funds through illegal transfers to offshore accounts through a sophisticated web involving the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
