Govt to rescue Espamprekini vendors: Minister

SMEs minister Sithembiso Nyoni

SMALL and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) minister Sithembiso Nyoni has assured vendors at Espamprekini Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre in Mpopoma, Bulawayo that government would assist them rebuild their structures which were recently destroyed by fire.

Nyoni made the remarks on Monday during a tour of the premises.

She assured the vendors that government was waiting for the Bulawayo City Council to issue out land for construction of new structures for SMEs.

“I have talked to the local authority asking them to give us land. We have investors that are ready to come and build infrastructure for SMEs. What happened is very sad. I am happy that after discussions with the local authority we agreed that we will work together,” Nyoni said.

She said investors were ready to work with SMEs in Bulawayo.

However, Nyoni could not be drawn to reveal how much compensation government was going to give to the vendors.

“As your minister, I have asked the local authority to allow SMEs to continue working from here until alternative places are provided.  President Emmerson Mnangagwa gave us money to assist you to build SMEs centres,” she said.

Ward nine councillor Donald Mabutho said the vendors should give council more time to come up with a lasting solution to all the problems they were facing.
