After a shoddy performance at last weekend’s Intwasa Festival premium show — Women Wine & Words — Afro-fusion songbird Linda Nyauchi, popularly known as Lee McHoney, says she has picked up the pieces and has promised fireworks in shows to come.
This year’s edition was graced by a galaxy of female poets and musicians, including Tariro NeGitare, Novuyo Seagirl, Mimmie, Vuyo Brown, Afro Queens and Masa. With reports indicating that the show would be held in Harare this month, Women Wine & Words is poised to be the biggest all-female arts festival in the country.
“My manager was unavailable for the Women Wine & Words event in Bulawayo as he was attending the Shoko Festival, so we had to improvise and work with the team that was on the ground on the day. This, however, did not work out as we expected,” said McHoney.
“Besides being asked to perform last, we were also denied a chance to do sound-check, so our pitch was off and the monitors were too loud as we could barely hear ourselves.”
The Skoro Skoro hit maker is making waves in the music industry with her latest video titled Laphokhona, which has received rave views on video-sharing platform YouTube. The video is also getting some attention from the international audience, especially South Africa.
McHoney stays dedicated to delivering good music to her fans, which she prioritises as her inspiration.
“Fortunately, I performed last and most people had left. I guess I wasn’t too bad for my fans and I was really looking forward to giving a great performance considering how we had worked so hard to polish our choreography,” she said.
