Masawi speaks of courage, resilience to survive in music industry

Masawi said the music industry has a lot of challenges that deter many to either enter into the space or grow to their intended levels.

The music industry could be one of the most difficult sectors to survive if you are weak, says rising gospel musician Beatrice Mambo Masawi.

Masawi said the music industry has a lot of challenges that deter many to either enter into the space or grow to their intended levels.

She said the music space was highly dominated by those fighting the vision, those trying to take advantage of your weaknesses and saboteurs who are after every potential voice.

Supported by her backing group — The Heavenly Echoes — Masawi said she was aware the devil was at work.

“As a gospel musician, it’s never easy, it requires one to be courageous,” she said.

“We are wedging a war against the dark forces hence we should promote a culture of prayer without fading because attacks comes in various and usual ways beyond expectations.

“We should be humble understanding and be faith driven always.

“In 2019, I remember there was a pastor, who had really committed on helping me, but someone became jealous and spoiled the deal.

“It is unfortunate that there are music promoters who also want to take advantage of their positions to chaff female musicians into relationships in exchange of favours and support.

“It's never easy. The journey has more hidden troubles and temptation for the faint hearted.”

The evangelist said despite having started her musical journey in 2021, she managed to record her songs in 2022.

“Delays in recording were mainly due to lack of financial support,” Masawi said.

“There are lots of expenses that goes into music production from recording, production, equipment among other expenses.

“Had it not been for my supportive husband, Masawi Masawi, who has been a pillar to this great mission of spreading the Word of God, this calling of ministering through recorded music would have been a shelved dream.”

Masawi defied all odds to be come the evangelist she is today and has a long chain of recorded singles that includes I shall over come (2022), Munyaradzi Wangu (2022), Jesu Ndinzita Yakana (2022), Ticheukei Mwari (2023), Nherera (2023) Mwari Munotichengeta (2025) Munhu Wenyama (2025) and Mweya Mutsvene (2025).

And she has hinted on releasing more music.

“God willing l will release three more songs hopefully in August, and l have been working on three videos, that is for Nherera, Munyaradzi Wangu and Ticheukei.

“The whole idea is to preach in various ways that allows people to get an understanding to the messages in a more vivid way, with the hope that they find their turning point that directs them to God at the soonest possible time,” she said.
