Two-time Zimbabwe Amateur Championship winner Keegan Shutt produced a superb third-round four-under-par 68 to storm back into contention and move within a single shot of the lead ahead of today's final round at Chapman Golf Club in Harare.
Shutt, who lifted the prestigious title in 2022 and 2024, endured a disappointing start to the championship on Friday, carding a six-over-par opening round that left him with plenty of work to do.
However, the experienced campaigner mounted a remarkable comeback on the second day yesterday, when competitors played two rounds.
He began his resurgence with an improved one-under-par 71 in the morning before catching fire in the afternoon with a brilliant four-under-par 68, the lowest round of the tournament so far.
His impressive recovery saw him climb to seven-over-par for the championship, leaving him just one stroke behind overnight leader Stalian Daka of Zambia.
Daka, who began the day in second place after an opening round of one-under-par 71, remained composed over the two rounds on Saturday.
The Zambian returned scores of 76 and 75 to finish the day on six-over-par overall and will carry a slender advantage into the decisive final round.
Teenage sensation Nathaniel Zidya, who had set the early pace after an outstanding opening round of two-under-par 70, found conditions much tougher on Saturday.

The 14-year-old carded a six-over-par round in the morning before adding a four-over-par effort in the afternoon, dropping to eight-over-par for the tournament.
Zidya is now tied for third place with fellow Zimbabwean Bruce Pritchard, who followed his opening-round 76 with solid rounds of 75 and 73 to also sit on eight-over-par heading into the final day.
There were also encouraging performances from two of Zimbabwe's emerging young talents, Munesu Chimhini and Vincent Chidambazina, who both made significant moves up the leaderboard.
Fifteen-year-old Chimhini backed up his opening-round 74 with rounds of 79 and an impressive level-par 72 to finish alone in fifth place on nine-over-par.
Chidambazina also enjoyed a productive second day. After opening with a 77, he carded rounds of 79 and 72 to move to 12-over-par overall, keeping himself in contention for a strong finish.
With just one shot separating leader Daka and the fast-finishing Shutt, the stage is set for an exciting final-round battle as the former champion bids to claim a third Zimbabwe Amateur title.
