How Magwizi is Rewritng the ZIFA playbook

FOR the first time on April 24, Zifa president Nqobile Magwizi met the 78 member Zifa Congress that on January 25, 2024, elected him into football power.

It was an emotional morning in which Magwizi chronicled what he has done so far, what he intends to do and his overall vision for the Zimbabwean game.

A morning that also guaranteed that all members of Zifa and the Congress will last their whole terms as the clause regarding suspensions was removed.

Surely, for those who follow football closely, the Magwizi reign might not have been milk and honey but it has certainly brought with it huge progress.

The long forgotten Zifa Cup is back and christened the Munhumutapa Zifa Challenge Cup and this time expanded to include women and junior football as well as futsal and beach football.

This is a first for Zimbabwe if not in the whole world that one football competition offers opportunities for all including other types of the game as well.

We have been told all sorts of things about where the money for the competition is coming from but football people do not care as their game is the ultimate winner.

One football pundit even gave Zifa an 80% rating in their first year contending too that during that period the Warriors of Zimbabwe have been well taken off.

Ever since Magwizi and Friends took over, there have been no match boycott over allowances and bonuses and the Warriors are not owed a cent for their appearance at Afcon 2025.

As they prepare for Afcon 2025 a series of friendly matches have been lined up including a four nations tournament in May including Jamaica, India, and Nigeria

Should the Warriors fail in their 2027 Afcon journey it would be unfair to point fingers at Zifa but at coach Marian Marinica and his troops.

Magwizi says they have partners ready to accompany the Warriors on their journey and are open for others as the ultimate goal is qualication to the 2030 World Cup.

Some of us might not like Magwizi but we should admit that he has taken football on a turning point.
