Zimbabwean forward Daniel Msendami has added another major trophy to his growing collection after helping South African giants Orlando Pirates secure the 2025/26 Betway Premiership title on a dramatic final day of the season yesterday.
Pirates sealed the championship with a 2-0 victory over Orbit College at the Mbombela Stadium, ending a grueling 14-year wait for the league title.
The historic triumph also officially dethroned heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns, who had won eight consecutive championships, with Pirates finishing just one point ahead of them in the final standings.
Msendami's road to the title decider was not without club-versus-country friction. Orlando Pirates barred the Warriors striker from joining the Zimbabwe national team for the Unity Cup in England, citing the crucial nature of their final-day league match.
The decision ultimately paid off for the Soweto giants and the player alike, as they successfully crossed the finish line to claim the ultimate prize in South African football.
The match itself saw a comedy of errors from relegated Orbit College that handed the trophy to the Buccaneers.
Pirates took the lead in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the first half when Orbit College's Sabelo Nkomo punched the ball into his own net from a corner. The victory was wrapped up in the 50th minute when Ndumiso Ngiba mistakenly lobbed his own goalkeeper while trying to prevent Yanela Mbuthuma from latching onto a lofted pass.
The Zimbabwe international, who joined Orlando Pirates earlier this year, becomes one of the few Warriors players currently plying their trade in South Africa to win the prestigious league title.
