UZ Wolves in final push

Zone VI Senior Male Indoor Volleyball Championships

THE defending champions, UZ Wolves, are gearing up for the final showdown against Alianca Maputo of Mozambique in the Zone VI Senior Male Indoor Volleyball Championships in Polokwane, South Africa today.

Wolves head coach Gift Chirebvu is confident and proud of his team's performance so far.

"I'm buzzing — proud, pumped, and truly grateful," Chirebvu told Standard Sport.

"The boys have put in a huge amount of work to get here, and I thank God for guiding us to this point."

The Wolves are looking to retain their title, having won it last year in Gaborone, Botswana. Coach Chirebvu attributes their success to the team's culture and teamwork.

"It's the culture we've built from day one," he said.

"There's no superstar here — we operate as a pack. The teamwork, camaraderie, and the effort we've put into preparation have been massive."

The coach's plan for the final is simple: serve with pressure, stay disciplined defensively, control the tempo, and reset mentally point by point.

"We want to compete aggressively right until the final whistle, but also enjoy our game," he said.

The message to his team is to play with heart and energy.

"This is the final push," Chirebvu added.

"We've put in the work, we've prayed, and we know what we're capable of. It's not about perfection — it's about heart. Play with energy, communicate, hustle for every ball, trust each other, and never give up on a single point. Let's play our game, enjoy the moment, and hunt as a pack."

UZ Wolves have played well so far, and their performance against Green Buffaloes of Zambia in the semis was impressive. They will be looking to bring the same energy and intensity to the final against Alianca Maputo.

The Zone VI Senior Male and Female Indoor Volleyball Championships are being played in Polokwane, South Africa, and the UZ Wolves are determined to bring home the title.

The UZ Wolves' opponents, Alianca Maputo, will be looking to cause an upset, but  Chirebvu is confident that his team will come out on top and bring the title home.

"We know what we're capable of," he said. "We're ready for this."
