CELEBRATED soul and Afro-fusion musician Feli Nandi is proving that nothing will stand in her way in her quest to make a name for herself.

Besides her music and the Feli Nandi apparel line of clothing, the gifted musician has diversified and opened a restaurant in Harare.

With Mbeu and Mhodzi Tribe acting as her springboard to stardom, Feli Nandi, born Felistas Chipendo, made her name as a musician, releasing a number of tracks that have catapulted her to fame.

On Friday night, she was one of the opening acts at celebrated sungura ace Alick Macheso’s Kupa Kuturika 13th album launch, at Alex Sports Club in Harare.

The next morning, she was up early as she prepared for the official opening of her new venture — KwaFeli Nandi — along Samora Machel Avenue in Eastlea. The joint opened its doors on Saturday morning with a variety of dishes on offer.

Sadza rezviyo, white sadza were on offer as starches, with a choice of fish, pork bones, roadrunner, nhari (haifiridzi) coming in on the relish trays.

A long list of “who is who” trooped in for lunch at the joint, among them was Tarisai Chikocho, popularly known as Madam Boss.

Cold beverages were also available, save for beer.

“I am still in the process of applying for a liquor licence,” Feli Nandi said.

“I understand it takes a bit of time to come out. I hope I will get one.”

She added: “I am running around trying to teach some of our staff how things should be run.

“We had trained some ladies unfortunately, one of them found a new job out of town before we had even opened.

“We will be adding more dishes to our menu so that there is variety.”

As something that is new, sitting tables are still few, but Feli Nandi said they were working on it.

“We will definitely increase the number of tables.”
