Videographer spreads wings into filmmaking

Leoy V who is famed for producing music videos told NewsDay Life & Style that Emma focuses on the hardships and challenges women face on a daily basis.

VIDEOGRAPHER-CUM-MUSICIAN Leopold Tapiwa Vengesa, popularly known in the music industry as Leoy V, has spread his artistry wings into filmmaking with Emma being his debut production.

The short film, available on YouTube, features award-winning hip-hop star Natasha Muz, born Natasha Muromba.

Leoy V who is famed for producing music videos told NewsDay Life & Style that Emma focuses on the hardships and challenges women face on a daily basis.

“My first film was inspired by challenges women face such as rape and abuse. The real-life events and things that I noticed while growing up stirred the production of Emma”, Leoy V said.

The videographer said he wrote and directed the film with a vision to visually shed more light on what is happening in society and to showcase his artistic talent.

He noted that the local film industry was on a steady rise.

“The film industry is growing, but what is needed is a bigger demand for content and more screening opportunities for new filmmakers. Once we have that, I think there will be more opportunities for filmmakers”, he said.

Away from video making, Leoy V has released songs such as Daira Phone, Ndiyambutse and Solo naMutsai featuring   Desire “Shaqu” Chirinda.

On the music front some of music videos he directed include Kokai by dancehall singer Poptain featuring Nutty O, Kure by Ishan featuring Ti Gonzi, Fire Emoji by Leo Magozz, Bling 4 and Brian Jeck and Ihulumende which featured Holy Ten and Nutty O among others.
