Willovale Vehicle Body Engineering (WVBE), a Harare-based engineering company, is manufacturing affordable refuse collection equipment to reduce local authorities' reliance on costly imports.
The Southerton-based company has designed and begun producing tractor-drawn hydraulic skip loaders and skip bins using locally sourced materials, offering a cost-effective solution for councils and private waste management companies.
WVBE managing director Silvester Matambo said the company has already supplied the equipment to several local authorities across Zimbabwe and is encouraged by the growing demand.
"Imported refuse collection equipment is very expensive, and many local authorities cannot afford it due to foreign currency shortages. We want to provide practical and affordable local solutions," said Matambo.
He urged local boards, rural district councils, municipalities, town councils, and private companies to embrace locally manufactured equipment.
"We have solutions for every refuse collection challenge. Our products are simple, reliable, and affordable," he said.
The company is currently fulfilling orders from three rural district councils and a private refuse collection company in Harare.
In addition to skip loaders and skip bins, WVBE manufactures tractor-drawn tipping dump trailers, water bowsers, trailers, and truck and bus bodies.
