Morocco side Renaissance Sportive De Berkane are basking in the CAF Confederation Cup success after they beat Egyptians Pyramids FC courtesy of a Youssoufa Dayou first half strike in final at the Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat on Sunday.
It was Berkane’s first continental title in their history after losing to Egyptian giants Zamalek on penalties when they reached the final of the same competition last season.
Burkinabi defender Dayou scored in the 15th minute to ensure victory for Berkane as they captured a second piece of silverware in history after the throne cup of Morocco in 2018.
The club attributed its success to the disappointment from last year’s final.
“It was a huge effort of 15 months. Last year, we could not win the title after losing the final game, but this year we have worked hard to achieve this goal. I would like to express my deep feelings and to thank all the fans of the club who could not be present today here with us,” right back Omar Namssaoui told the media.
It was a highly physical contest which saw the referee Niante Alyoum from Cameroon dish out eight cards including a red for Moroccan Bakr El Hilali.
“It was a hard and great work that the club has done for a few years and the hard work always pays. I should thank all supports of the RSB who believed in us. This is just the beginning of other titles which still will follow. Congratulations to Moroccan football too for tonight’s title,” added Amine El Kass, one of RSB’s key players.
Berkane had a difficult route to the final in which they beat Egyptian opposition Al Masry in the last eight stage before accounting for fellow Morrocans HUSA in the semis.

This new title is the outcome of years of hard work as all RSB players agree on indeed.
It would not have been achieved without the good management and governance of current team’s leadership including its new president as well as that of Fouzi Lekjaa, who held the position of a president of the orange club until last year.
