BUDDING musician Precious Musarurwa, otherwise known as Star Zimbabwe in music circles, is inspired by embracing the African identity and singing about it.
In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style Musarurwa said she had created her own genre called Afro-mirror which she described as a reflection sound which celebrates African diversity by blending traditional sounds with modern influences.
The musician is set to launch a single titled Call to Africa which she worked on with Ugandan producer Kiirya Moses and will be launched on May 4 at Cresta Lodge Msasa in Harare at the Africa One Identity Business Seminar, gala dinner and awards ceremony.
“I have a background in song writing, acting and human rights activism. I was also acknowledged as a gender champion by the Netherlands embassy. Music has always been a part of my life because my grandfather was a member of the police band and my father conducted choirs. As I grew up I found inspiration in the enchanting melodies of Whitney Houston,” she told NewsDay Life & Style.
She further noted that working for the Music Crossroads Zimbabwe Trust and Diamond Studios, as well as coaching other artistes provided an understanding of the industry.
Musarurwa has six singles under her name, including Call to Africa, Hondo Idzo, Wamusina Kuraira, Kure Kure, Komba Nyika and Hamunyare Imi.
