22 dead as kombi, truck collide head-on

Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Wednesday morning that the accident occurred at around 10pm on Tuesday night at the 27km peg along the road near Thandweni Store.

TWENTY-TWO people died when a Toyota Quantum commuter omnibus collided with a truck along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Highway Tuesday night.

Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Wednesday morning that the accident occurred at around 10pm on Tuesday night at the 27km peg along the road near Thandweni Store.

The Toyota Quantum vehicle had 21 passengers on board and collided head-on with a DAF truck which had one passenger on board.

Nyathi did not say which driver was wrong or how the accident occurred.

He said the injured were admitted to United Bulawayo Hospitals.
