THE driver of the Intercape bus which claimed nine Zimbabweans’ lives in South Africa last Friday appeared at the Polokwane Magistrates’ Courts yesterday, facing nine counts of culpable homicide and reckless driving.

George Themba (41) of Harare was denied bail and remanded to October 2 to allow for further police investigations.

Themba was arrested after a futile attempt to skip the border by hiding in the goods trailer of another bus destined for Zimbabwe.

Police, reacting to a tip-off, fished out Themba from the trailer as he headed for Beitbridge Border Post.

South African Police Service spokesperson for Limpopo Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said they would release names of the deceased after completing the identification process.
