COUSINS Tryson and Sulumani Chimbetu ignited the “Dr Nero Commemoration Gig” held at Andy Miller Hall on Friday when they jointly performed the song Sean Timba. Entertainment Reporter Clad in all-white suit, Tryson joined Sulumani on stage for the song and did lead vocals, triggering wild cheers from the packed venue.
As if doing the vocals was not good enough, Tryson went on to dance his popular tamba sababa style and proved he is a force to reckon with on the dendera scene. Sean Timba is Sulumani’s hit, originally performed in collaboration with Jah Prayzah.
The commemoration was meant to celebrate the life of one of dendera music founders Naison “Dr Nero” Chimbetu who died in March 2006. The event saw musicians from the Chimbetu family in the form of Sulumani, Douglas, Tryson and Allan taking turns to entertain the crowd. Alick Macheso, Peter Moyo and Munya Mataruse also performed at the event.
After the Sean Timba performance, Tryson and Sulumani were joined on stage by Douglas and Allan for the performance of one of Naison’s hits titled Dr Nero. This was the moment that made the much publicised “dendera united” a reality. Dendera united is a term used to refer to all Chimbetus when in a collaboration.
Tryson did the lead vocals on Dr Nero while other Chimbetus backed him.
After the song, Allan led the formalities to introduce members of the Chimbetu clan that attended the show on stage.

As he lead the introductions Allan left the whole auditorium in stitches after he introduced Simon and Naison’s wives as “his property”.
Sulu left during the introductions to rush for another show at Pamuzinda Highway X-scape.
After the introductions Peter Moyo took the stage and introduced himself with one of his late father Tongai’s songs, Muridzi Wenyaya.
Moyo sent the house into jubilation after he sampled his new song Mira Newako. Fans demanded an encore of the song twice. The young musician delivered a good performance.
Next on stage was Tryson. He became the centre of attraction on the night as he played hit after another.
He stormed the stage with the song Mudzimu Ndiringe and complemented it with a new dance called chirauro.
Dendera fans could not stop dancing as the musician sampled songs from his upcoming album Campus.
New songs Ndondo, Bhora Mberi and Pahotera proved to be very popular. He took the opportunity to announce a date for his album launch.
“Our album Campus was supposed to be out today, but due to technical problems we are going to release and launch it on April 3. The launch will be held at Ligi Bar in the city centre,” he said.
Sungura king Macheso joined Tryson on the stage for one of yesteryear dendera hits, Denda.
The two formed a dendera-sungura fusion that inspired Naison’s widow to go up the stage and strut some dances.
Macheso then sealed the event with a performance that doubled as a farewell act ahead of his United Kingdom tour during Easter.
Speaking after the event Tryson, who was at the height of his joy, told NewsDay that he was happy about the successful event.
“We want to thank God for this. I am happy because there was the ‘dendera united’ for the first time which is a good thing for our fans,” Trsyon said.
Naison’s wife said she was happy that her husband was commemorated in style.
“We are happy as a family for the event that brought us together,” she said.
