ALLEGATIONS of witchcraft have caused a stir at the Harare City Council after suspicious items were found outside the office of newly-appointed chamber secretary Warren Chiwawa and in his parking space at Town House.

Sources yesterday told NewsDay that early one morning, cat faeces was smeared on Chiwawa’s office door, sparking immediate concern among staff.

In addition, a dead bird and peanuts were discovered in his parking bay, raising suspicions that someone was trying to use black magic against him.

Chiwawa confirmed the incidents yesterday.

“Someone has been performing black magic at my office and parking bay since last week. It is scary,” he said.

Harare mayor Jacob Mafume also corroborated Chiwawa’s assertions, adding that the incident was sad.

“Yes, our chamber secretary briefed me on the matter but it is surprising that there are people who still believe in black magic,” he said.

A witness expressed shock as workers stumbled onto the dead bird and peanuts in the parking bay.

“It was the only bay with such shocking items. It was really frightening. I do not know what is going on, but it does not seem good. I even took a picture because I was so surprised,” the worker said.

The atmosphere among workers has been tense, with some saying they are afraid to enter certain areas of the building.

An employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, also shared her fears.

“People are shaken. These aren’t things you expect to see in a professional setting,” the worker said.

A worker who removed the items added: “We sprinkled salt on the faeces, dead bird and peanuts before flushing them down a drain.”

The incidents are said to have overshadowed what was meant to be a fresh start for Chiwawa in his new role.

While such incidents involving suspected witchcraft are rare in professional environments, they are not unknown in certain communities, often fuelling fear and speculation.

With the situation still uncertain, council workers are calling for clarity, reassurance and strong security measures to restore normalcy within council.
