HARARE, Aug.6 (NewsDay Live) -Zimbabwean aviator Captain Charles Chikosi marked the end of his illustrious 43-year career in the aviation yesterday as he retired from Fastjet after logging more than 20,500 flight hours.
The low-cost airline gave him a befitting send-off comprising a ceremonial water cannon salute and a guard of honour formed by fellow pilots, cabin crew and other employees at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
In a social media post, the airline lauded Chikosi for his dedication to duty and unwavering professionalism during his years of service that spanned more than four decades.
"Captain Chikosi’s extraordinary journey began in 1983 as a Boeing 707 Flight engineer, before he answered the call to command the flight deck at the age of 31, going on to accumulate an incredible 16,500 flight hours across global skies and culminating in a monumental 20,500 total flying hours over 43 total years in aviation," Fastjet said.
Chikosi’s retirement marks the end of a significant chapter for both Fastjet and the country's aviation sector in upholding international safety standards.
