A Harare-based group, Munandi Express, scooped the first prize at Chibuku Road to Fame finals on Saturday and walked away with $5 000 and a recording contract with Gramma Records.
Afro Vision from Midlands State University in Gweru were the first runners-up. The group took same position at last year’s edition.
They walked away with $4 000 while Ancient Tribes (Mashonaland West) settled for third place and bagged $3 000.
Other groups that competed are Nyampi Stars (Bulawayo), Sunrise Jazz Band (Manicaland), Coal Miners (Matabeleland North), Motor Supersounds (Matabeleland South), Feel Africa (Masvingo), Quad Afro (Mashonaland East), and RJ Zvavapachena (Mashonaland Central).
After the competition, music gurus Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, Alick Macheso, Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo and Allan Chimbetu took turns to entertain revellers and put up memorable performances that lasted until early hours of Sunday.
Last year’s Chibuku Road to Fame winners, Club Shanga came as guest performers and gave a five star performance.
