As the countdown to Chimanimani Arts Festival due to be held between August 10 and 12 gathers momentum, festival oganisers are hosting a promotional gig tonight at Londoner’s Sports Bar in Strathaven.
The jam-packed line-up of performers features Chiwoniso Maraire, Dino Mudondo, Ba Shupi, Junior Bantan, Apie T, Josh Meck and Tehn Diamond.
The gig is aimed at boosting funds for the festival which is entry-free and non-profit making. It has in the past, relied solely on sponsorship and donations, but organisers are introducing a novel approach this year.
“Our approach this year is different in that we’re making deliberate efforts to fundraise as a way of complementing any sponsorship or donations from well-wishers,” said Chido Musasiwa-Gutu, the festival director.
“We are also urging sponsors to support line items on the festival budget, for instance transport or accommodation, so that they don’ t feel overwhelmed by the entire budget.”
This is the 12th edition of the festival and it promises to be action-filled with several theatre plays, traditional and modern dance, music, drumming, acrobatics, poetry and spoken word showcased at venues during the event.
