BULAWAYO-BASED Zimdancehall artiste Langson Sithole, popularly known as DADYLALAH, is set to release a thought-provoking new single titled Ahoi Ahoi (Machembere), a song that marks a significant departure from his previous musical style.
Known for love songs, dance tracks and gospel music, the versatile musician says his upcoming release ventures into traditional themes, inspired by the
emotional pain of living without loved ones.
“The song came from the pain of living without the people we love. It speaks about seeking guidance from our ancestors during difficult times,” DADYLALAH said.
Although the song has not yet been released, the artiste revealed that creating it, was emotionally demanding as he tried to authentically capture grief and longing.
“It was very tough trying to outline the pain of living without loved ones.

“That is why the song ends up seeking guidance from our ancestors.”
The project was not without controversy, as he says some people discouraged him from completing the song because of its subject matter, noting that beliefs surrounding ancestors differ widely.
“People around me discouraged me while I was writing it because everyone has different opinions about ancestors. Some believe in them, while others don’t,” he said.
Musically, Ahoi Ahoi (Machembere) also represents a creative shift.
The artiste deliberately embraced a more traditional sound and instrumentation to complement the song’s message.
“I wanted to change everything and give listeners a different feeling by trying a more traditional approach,” he said.
The title Ahoi Ahoi (Machembere), which refers to ancestors or people of old, symbolises a heartfelt plea for guidance rather than an attempt to promote any particular belief system.
“I simply noticed that people have different views about ancestors, so I decided to write a song that cries out for guidance.
“It is up to listeners to interpret it in their own way.”
Specialising primarily in Zimdancehall, DADYLALAH describes himself as an adaptable artiste willing to experiment across genres.
He hopes listeners will connect with the emotion behind the song.
“I want people to hear the cry of a burdened soul,” he said.
For DADYLALAH, the upcoming release represents growth and a desire to reach a broader audience.
“I have done love songs, dance songs and gospel songs before.
“Now I’m trying traditional music as well because I want everyone to feel represented and comfortable listening to my music.”
With Ahoi Ahoi (Machembere) awaiting its official release, DADYLALAH continues to cement his reputation as an artiste who is not afraid to tackle profound and emotionally charged subjects.
Blending themes of loss, cultural identity and spirituality, the forthcoming single promises to resonate deeply with listeners while marking another bold step in his artistic evolution.
