Rangarirai Joseph Mangono, better known as DJ Joey Lion, says the 7th Annual Mr and Miss Empire 263 Valentine’s Modelling Pageant, set for Saturday, February 14 at East Point Bar and Restaurant in Harare, is projected to be the most glamorous and entertaining edition yet.
Mangono noted that since its inception in 2015, Empire 263 Entertainment has been a driving force on Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene. He added that last year’s winners, Nyasha Satumba (Miss Empire 263 Queen) and Frank Magaya (Mr Empire 263 King), set the bar high, and this year’s contestants are more than ready to raise it further.
For Nyasha Satumba, the 7th Annual Valentine’s Edition represents growth, resilience, and the power of dreams. Over the years, Empire 263 has evolved from a modelling competition into a movement that empowers young people across Zimbabwe. It has become a platform that nurtures confidence, leadership, and purpose. Seeing the event grow in professionalism, creativity, and impact is truly inspiring, she said.
Frank Magaya echoed similar sentiments, saying the pageant represents opportunity and transformation. Since its inception, the event has expanded its reach and influence, giving young models exposure, mentorship, and real industry experience. It has matured into a respected brand that celebrates talent while promoting discipline and community values.
Satumba added that wearing the crown carries responsibility, discipline, and leadership.
“As a role model, I understand that young people look up to us, so I strive to lead by example through hard work, respect, and positive influence. Balancing modelling with mentorship comes naturally when you understand that success is not just about appearance, but about character. I make time to engage with young aspiring models and encourage them to pursue their dreams responsibly.”
Mangono said beauty pageants such as Mr and Miss Empire 263 play a critical role in shaping the modelling industry. Beyond physical appearance, they promote discipline, public speaking, community engagement, and brand ambassadorship. In Zimbabwe’s growing fashion sector, pageants offer structured platforms for emerging talent to connect with designers, photographers, and corporate sponsors.
This year’s competition features contestants drawn from Harare, Bulawayo, Masvingo, Norton, and Chinhoyi. Organisers say audiences should expect creativity, confidence, and strong stage presence.
The adjudication panel blends fashion, philanthropy, and entertainment. Wadzanai Gumbo of Wadzanai Trust, who will donate sanitary wear to contestants, joins Magaya, Satumba, Tamia Cheza, Simbarashe Gwawawa, and Chico Fashions founder Reason Chiyangwa. Two surprise guest judges will be unveiled on the day.
The modelling contest runs from midday to 5pm, followed by live performances from emerging artistes including C Champian, Yung Kent, Macca Deyan, Iyno City, Mr Breaker, and Black Genna, among others. DJs Dawn, Ashizamaniza, and Zhacks will take over the decks, with dancehall vibes closing the night.
The programme begins at 9am, with the runway showcase starting at 12 noon sharp. Organisers have encouraged guests to observe a smart dress code in keeping with the elegance of the Valentine’s theme.
