BULAWAYO, Jul. 26 (NewsDay Live) – Police have launched a murder investigation after a 56-year-old woman was killed and another seriously injured in a brutal attack at Ngenisa Farm in Mbalabala, Esigodini, on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Tracy Simela (56), while the surviving victim, aged 46, suffered severe burns after escaping from a cabin that was set alight by the attackers.

Police said two unidentified men armed with a knife and an axe attacked the women before robbing them of an Oking cellphone, a Vodafone cellphone and US$20 in cash.

“The suspects assaulted the victims, poured petrol inside the cabin, locked them inside and set it on fire before fleeing into the bush,” police said in a statement.

Simela died after becoming trapped inside the burning cabin, while the other victim managed to escape despite sustaining serious burn injuries.

Police have appealed to members of the public with information that may assist in identifying or locating the suspects to report to the nearest police station
