BULAWAYO born dancer and choreographer,   is  elated after he recently won Adidas merchandise worth R20 000 from South Africa’s Foot Gear (FG), a specialist retailer in selling footwear.

Mtkay Ntwana who is active on social media with a huge following on Instagram took part in a competition—#3StepChallenge where he was supposed to dance to a certain song and tag the brands mentioned in the competition.

The Nkulumane born choreographer said he was happy to receive such a prize through the power of social media which he uses to push his content especially during the COVID-19 era.

“It really feels great to win such prizes and motivates me to do more considering that I just won R10000 in another competition just a few months back,” he said.

“It would be a lie to say COVID-19 has not affected me or the arts industry, we live off open air events and with these different lockdowns and restrictions it is tough. I try as much to create content for online consumption following the proper COVID-19 protocols and it’s been helpful through these tough times.”

Mtkay Ntwana who started dancing at a tender age when he was at church said through the power of social media he has managed to work with some of his idols and hopes to reach greater heights.

“I have been dancing from Sunday school at Universal Church and at Herentals College as I have always loved dance. I started dancing professionally during my high school days and would win dance competitions representing my school,” he said.

“After high school I then started opening social media accounts on different platforms so as to share my dance content. It started as a fun activity and a hobby, but upon realising I could make money through it, that is when I started taking it seriously and the rest has been history.”

Mtkay Ntwana says he wants to continue to explore more avenues of dance such as choreography for music videos and adverts.

“I want to explore everything dance related. As dance is closely related to music, I also have plans on doing my own music and also juggling all of that with my academic journey,” he said.
