UNITED KINGDOM-based rapper and entrepreneur Rhyme Assassin says his quest to promote new talent drove him into establishing his own record label, Uncle Rhymez Records in 2014.
The label’s debut song Party people, by Rhyme Assassin and T9yce was the number one on major radio stations in Zimbabwe. It was on ZBC Power FM Zimbabwe charts for 12 weeks, on both the daily Power FM Top 10 chart and the weekly Power FM Top 20 chart and leading the track to be in top 50 of the Power FM Top 100 songs of the year 2014.
The record label is home to two artists T9yce and Lincoln the Prez and is looking forward to working with more artists from different genres.
“I have been in the music industry for some time and I have studied the game and realised that most of the artist’s projects don’t go far because they lack professional foundation,”said Rhyme Assassin.
“Artists should have a structure of creating, marketing and distribution of their products and at the label that’s what we are doing. We want to build the industry and artists around us in a professional manner. There are so many artists who are talented and lack exposure to the world and we are just helping out to get them known.”
The record label is already working on Lincoln the Prez’ debut album after the release of the leading single dubbed Dai So. The song Dai So was produced by Real Beats from Chitungwiza. The song speaks on the plight of the ordinary Zimbabwean youth and his perspectives on life,” he said.
Rhyme Assassin is also working on his album titled Dedicated to Self. The album will have productions from True Master an American hip-hop record producer and occasional rapper, known for his affiliation with the Wu-Tang Clan, Buckwild, Arcitype and Zimbabwean P2daoh. It will also feature Ras Kass, The Juice crew Legends, Craig G, Rock Monster, Ruste Juxx, Sticman and others.

Born Tichaona Monera in Chivhu, Rhyme Assassin grew up in Harare’s suburbs of Highfield and Houghton Park.
Rhyme Assassin started music in 2000 doing rap battles and performances up to 2002 when he left for the UK.
He then resumed his music career in 2012 when he met a UK producer named Deep Voice who ignited his passion for music and he started writing and recording music.
In 2014, Rhyme Assassin started the Mwana Anokosha concert, a charity musical event for orphans at Harare Children’s Home and the event has featured several performing artists. He has also been involved with Afro Empire dance group’s charity initiatives.
On Christmas day, the rapper hosted a Christmas luncheon for children at Harare children’s home where close to 100 children were treated to food, music and dance in the spirit of the festive season.
