A 22-year-old son of a Nyamandlovu village head, Deli Mabhena has been slapped with a 5-year jail term for attempted murder.

Jordan Tshuma of Village 8 pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before Bulawayo Regional magistrate Nokubonga Malunga on Tuesday.

The court was told that Tshuma attacked Amoni Ncube (72), his neighbour, on August 10 while in the company of his friend Shepherd Sibanda.

Prosecutor Naison Chivayo told the court that the incident happened at night when Tshuma and his friend had attempted to rob Ncube at his Nyamakumba line homestead.

Tshuma allegedly attacked Ncube twice on the head with a log after he had woken up to investigate the noise in his yard. Ncube managed to identify Tshuma before he fell unconscious.

A report was made to the police leading to his arrest.
