A team of engineers at Willovale Vehicle Body Engineering (WVBE) company said they have the capacity to supply buses locally a move that will see both private and public players saving lots of money through importing buses.
The engineers are currently assembling buses for tertiary learning institutions, schools and transport operators.
They are also assembling refuse trucks and skip bins to local authorities countrywide.
Government is currently importing buses from Europe and Asian countries to strengthen its public fleet.
Passengers, however, have been facing massive transport challenges as the Zupco fleet is failing to meet the demand.
WVBE spokesperson Sylvester Matambo said they have the capacity to assemble buses to meet the local demand after acquiring more equipment.
“We recently acquired steel cutting and bending machines and now have the capacity to assemble as many buses as we can within a year. Currently we are manufacturing buses for schools and individuals,” said Matambo.

“We would be happy to get support from government departments for the supply of buses.
“In line with the government road rehabilitation programme we have embarked on the manufacturing of tractor drawn dump trailers of various capacity, water bowsers and ordinary trailers.”
The company is also into making truck bodies, trailers, ambulance conversions and farm trailers among other vehicles.
“We would like to get support from parastatals like Zinara, DDF and local authorities as far as purchasing of the road construction equipment that we are producing.
“We would like to commend the second republic led by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on the various initiatives that has seen the economy picking up.
“We are convinced the work that we are doing here is in total resonance with the government’s economic turnaround initiatives such as the National Development Strategy 1 and the Motor Industry Development Policy,” added Matambo.
He said the engineers are ready to partner the government in the resuscitation of the public mass transportation system by building locally made buses that are affordable and well-suited for our road conditions in both urban and rural areas.
