As most Zimbabweans embrace sporting with working from home having become a norm in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, a local company, Cycle Village and Sports Wear is seeking to fulfil the sporting desire by establishing a cycling and sporting wear outlet.
Located in Avondale, Harare, the newly launched outlet will import bicycles; spare parts as well as sport wear from the United Kingdom as it eyes this niche market.
Having identified a niche market in supplying spare parts for bicycles, the shop will supply road bikes, mountain bikes, cleats, tubes, Sram, Campagnolo group sets among other things as it seeks to promote health style living through cycling.
With an initial target of 30 bicycles and 100 spare parts per month, the company is setting its target higher in the long run.
In terms of sportswear the company will not limit itself to cycling only but will go beyond the niche, supplying all types of sportswear.
Cycle Village and Sports Wear director Ruvimbo Katuruza said the with an effective supply chain from the United Kingdom, durability of the products was guaranteed.
“Cycling is now a lifestyle for many and a way of keeping healthy in the outdoors,” Katuruza said.

Cycling in Zimbabwe has always been a popular past time due to the warm climate and the country first gained prominence on the world stage shortly after independence.
