A-47-YEAR-old businessman Bernard Dube was last weekend shot dead by unknown assailants in front of his family at St Faith in Lower Gweru.
According to reports, Dube was shot eight times by people who approached him saying they wanted to process gold ore at his mill.
When they arrived at the mill, the suspects reportedly drew a firearm and shot him while his family members watched helplessly.
Dube was rushed to Gweru General Hospital where he died on admission.
The motive of the killing is not yet known, but there was suspicion he could have been murdered by his rivals in the mining sector.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the incident.
“No arrests yet, but you can speak to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi for more details,” he said.

Nyathi was, however, not immediately available for comment.
The incident has baffled the Lower Gweru community with local leaders expressing concern at the rate of murders happening in the area.
Acting headman Emmanuel Makula said it was disheartening that people continued to take others’ lives “with reckless abandon” and called for law enforcement agents to bring justice to the matter.
“These murderers must be brought to book. We want to see results with people responsible appearing in court for murder,” he said.
Councillor Benjamin Mpala of Mdubiwa ward seven expressed concern at the increasing murder cases in the area.He called on villagers to help in fighting crime in the area.
“Police need support of villagers, and therefore if people see anyone suspicious in the area they should immediately notify the police,” he said.
