FORMER Cabinet minister Walter Mzembi will remain in custody pending trial after Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei ruled that the State has proven that his application seeking cancellation of warrants of arrest was invalid.
Ndirowei yesterday ruled that Mzembi wilfully defaulted and his bail should be revoked, adding that there was no explanation for his decision to default.
He said there was a gap as to what transpired in his medical report since the attachment should have worked if he had availed himself in 2019 not 2025.
The court ruled that after his discharge in 2024 while in Zambia, Mzembi never made an effort to cancel the warrants, adding that he was not ill to the extent that he wanted the court to believe since he was 2023 presidential candidate Saviour Kasukuwere’s campaign manager and active on his social media.
Ndirowei further ruled that the State managed to prove on a balance of probability that Mzembi defaulted court wilfully.
Mzembi was arrested last week for breaching bail conditions for his two cases, where he is accused of theft of trust property.
Another warrant of arrest was issued for failure to return a passport released for a specific number of days.
