ZIMBABWE, in partnership with Huawei Technologies, will today host a Public Sector Information Communication Technology (ICT) forum in Harare to enhance socio-economic development.

Huawei Technologies is a leading global ICT company from China. Huawei opened offices in Zimbabwe in 1997 and has strategic partnerships with NetOne and TelOne in the ICT sector.

Both NetOne and TelOne have been looking for strategic partners to inject capital since 2009 when the country introduced the multi-currency system.

“Huawei set-up GSM wireless and CDMA networks for local telecom operators: GSM wireless and transmission network to NetOne, and CDMA access and transmission network to TelOne.

“The national backbone transmission project from TelOne has been successfully accomplished which had three major phases optic fibre from Harare to Mutare, Harare to Bulawayo, and microwave link for Bulawayo to Victoria Falls,” the government said in a statement.
