A lot is at stake when Under-17 basketball players from around the country clash in the National Basketball Championships at Mzingwane High School at the weekend.

The boys and girls’ competition will feature the country’s ten provinces.

Thompson Kalinda, National Association of Secondary Schools (Nash) head of schools basketball yesterday told NewsDay Sport that stiff contest is expected in the games.

“We expect to see strong competition because we will use the competition to select players who will represent the country in the COSASA games to be staged in Lesotho on September,” he said.

“We want to identify and pick good players. We will select players from all provinces and not necessarily players who come from the best province,” he said.

The players will be grouped into two pools where the two top teams will qualify for the semi-finals.
