Two Zimbabwean female athletes excelled in the Bonita City to City Marathon held in South Africa last Sunday.

Lizzy Chokore and Samukeliso Moyo came first and second in the women’s 50km category pocketing R3 000 and R2 000 in cash respectively.

Chokore, who runs for Nedbank Athletics Club in South Africa, was the first woman to hit the winning line ahead of Moyo in a time of 3:26,56 while Moyo who runs for Mr Price Athletics Club romped home in 03:31,22 five minutes behind the winner.

Moyo and Chokore finished second and third respectively in the last edition of the Sunshine City 42km Marathon held in July with Moyo finishing the race in 2:44,10 ahead of Chokore who clocked 2:47,47.

South African Riana van Niekerk, who runs for Mr Price, came third in 03:31,22 pocketing R1 000.

Only one Zimbabwean man, Peter Todziripa, managed to make it into the top 10 in the 50km category. Todziripa came ninth, in 03:01,0 and pocketed R700.

Tunyiswa Odwa of Nedbank won the race coming home in 02:50,36 while Elias Mabane of Bidvest came second in 02:52,19 with Bongumuba Mthembu of Mr Price coming third in 03:56,22.

Tabitha Tsatsa won the women’s 21km race after romping to victory in 1:21,11 pocketing R2 000. Tsatsa runs for Mr Price Athletics Club in South Africa.

In July Tsatsa won the Sunshine City 42km Marathon after clocking 2:43,37 beating Moyo and Chokore.

Jagi Moss was second in 1:35,02 pocketing R1 500 while Emma Mathibela came home in 1:39,02 pocketing R1 000. Both Mathibela and Moss are from Temple Athletics Club.
