DAKAR – Senegal have sacked coach Amara Traore after he failed to qualify the team beyond the first round of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

The countrys football federation have therefore named Karim Sega and former international skipper Aliou Cisse as caretaker coaches for a friendly against Bafana Bafana of South Africa on February 29 in Durban.

Traore signed a new three-year contract with Senegal on the eve of the Nations Cup in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

However, his highly-rated team lost all three first round matches to Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and Libya to finish bottom of the table with no points.

He insisted on staying on as coach with some players even backing him.

However, a clause in his contract stipulated that he must reach the semi-finals of the Nations Cup to keep his post.
