TelOne FC have appointed nomadic coach Saul Chaminuka as their new head coach, replacing Herbert Maruwa, who was sacked last week.

Chaminuka’s appointment has been met with skepticism within the club, largely due to his recent record in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, where his last six coaching stints have ended in struggle and instability.

His spells at Black Rhinos, Dynamos, Bikita Minerals, GreenFuel, and Kwekwe United were all short-lived, with most of those clubs suffering relegation during or shortly after his tenure.

Despite that record, TelOne opted for Chaminuka over other candidates, including Luke Masomere and Mukuphali Masuku, following Maruwa’s abrupt departure.

He joins the Gweru-based side with Philemon Mutyakureva as his first assistant coach. Peter Masibera has been appointed goalkeepers’ coach, while Denford Mutumbi takes over as kit manager.

Chaminuka faces an immediate and demanding test that could define his tenure at the club.

He begins with a Midlands derby against Hardrock FC at Ascot Stadium this Saturday, before a difficult away trip to Baobab Stadium to face Ngezi Platinum Stars. TelOne will then host Manica Diamonds in his third assignment.

In unveiling him, TelOne described Chaminuka as a “veteran of the game”, saying he joins the “WiFi Boys with a wealth of experience and a proven track record of tactical excellence”.

“His appointment signals the club’s commitment to stabilising our current campaign and building a competitive squad capable of challenging the elite in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League,” the club said.
