ZIMBABWE Women Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) clubs are set to attend a crucial Zifa Women’s Club Licensing Regulations Workshop at the Zifa Accommodation and Conferencing Centre in Mt Hampden on Saturday.

The workshop aims to equip clubs with the necessary knowledge to meet the minimum club licensing criteria, a key phase of football development according to an official.

Speaking ahead of the workshop, ZWPSL board member for development, James Shamuyarira Mupfudza, dissected the importance of clubs fulfilling the club licensing pillars that include sporting, infrastructure, personnel and administrative, legal and finance.

“All clubs should at least have a home ground which meets the minimum Zifa/CAF requirements. Playing in bumpy and dusty grounds is no longer acceptable,” he told NewsDay Sport.

“All grounds’ turf should be level and green. The changing rooms should be maintained and clean with running water.

“We expect clubs to provide security and ambulances at match venues without fail.”

Mupfudza outlined specific requirements, reiterating the need for level and green grounds, clean changing rooms with running water, security, and ambulances at match venues.

Clubs are also expected to have a defined structure, audited financials, and players registered on Fifa Connect.

“Football is a business and a business should have defined roles and responsibilities,” he said.

A Zifa FIB team is set to visit clubs’ home grounds soon to assess their readiness.

“All clubs are urged to attend the workshop to ensure compliance with Fifa regulations and advance women’s football development,” Mupfudza added.

The 2026 ZWPSL season is scheduled to commence early next month with 16 teams set to compete for honours alongside defending champions, Herentals Queens.

At least three new teams were promoted after gaining qualification in their various Division 1 leagues.

These are Rise of Hope Academy, Rufaro Starlets and Lobengula City Queens, while Kwekwe United Kwekwe Queens were adopted during the ZWPSL’s AGM recently.

They become the fourth new entrant for this season.
