TSHWANE — SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has revealed the signing of former Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari is unlikely to materialise due to his high salary demands.

The former Zimbabwe international is currently keeping fit with “Matsatsantsa”, who have been keen to land the ex-Portsmouth forward.

However, Hunt, who saw his side progress to the quarter-finals of the Telkom Cup on Saturday, conceded to this site that a deal was not likely to happen.

“He’s a top player. His touch is world class and I’m sure having played in the English Premier League for those teams, he can play in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with one leg.” Hunt said.

“We would love to have him. He’s still training with us, but for obvious reasons, we can’t sign him. He was sitting on £60 000 per week and I’m afraid we can’t afford so much. But he is sheer class and I would definitely love to have him.”

The 34-year-old formerly played for Jomo Cosmos in the PSL before moving to French League 1 side Auxerre in 2002.   —Football411
