ZIMBABWE will be part of four countries set to participate at the Tanzania Ladies’ Open set for the Dar-es-Salaam Gymkhana grounds, Tanzania, on Thursday. Report by Henry Mhara

Tanzania Ladies’ Golf Union (TLGU) president Mbonile Burton yesterday announced the countries that had confirmed participation in the 54-hole event.

Besides Zimbabwe, the host nation Tanzania, Uganda and Malawi will be fighting for honours.

Burton told a Tanzania newspaper that she still awaited confirmation from Kenya, Zambia and Rwanda, which she said were expected to be sent at the earliest.

She said the three-day event was expected to attract more than 100 golfers.

“We are preparing to hold our annual tournament. Arrangements are going on fine. This meet will close the year. Our only problem so far is that we have not acquired the required 16 million shillings as yet,” Burton said.

The tournament is open to all age groups.

Burton said they had invited men to participate at the tournament, so as to give the occasion more colour and the sport a bigger push in the country, but the response was subdued.
