FADING Harare giants Caps United have completed the signing of highly-rated former Zambia national soccer team goalkeeper Kalililo Kakonje. SPORTS REPORTER
The 27-year-old goalminder has reportedly agreed a two-year deal with Makepekepe and is expected to fill in the void left by former goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda.
Kakonje’s representative Chiti Chitundu, a Fifa-registered agent confirmed this in an interview with the Zambia Daily Mail recently. “He is going to Caps United as of January 2013,” Chitundu said.
“They have taken him on and basically we are just about to conclude personal terms.”
Kakonje, who has made over 19 appearances for Zambia’s Chipolopolo, is coming from Super Division side Napsa Stars.
The 27-year-old, who was recently recalled to the national team for their preparations for the African Cup of Nations, has vast experience with top teams in Zambia such as Power Dynamos, Nkana Red Devils and Lusaka Dynamos.

He also played for African giants TP Mazembe in 2011 and had stints with South African sides Golden Arrows, Amazulu and Nathi Lions. Kakonje, however, missed a large part of the second half of the MTN Super League with an ankle injury, leading him to lose his national team place as Kennedy Mweene’s understudy to Joshua Titima.
He is set to fill the void left by Edmore Sibanda, who had been fired by the club before getting a life ban for his alleged involvement in the Asiagate scandal.
Kakonje has also plied his trade for Lusaka Dynamos, Power Dynamos, South African sides Golden Arrows and Nathi Lions and TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
