KAMPALA — The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) have said they still hope to jointly host the Africa Cup of Nations with Kenya.

FUFA vice president in charge of the league, Mujib Kasule, told MTNFootball.com that Uganda already lobbied through the Cecafa members during the 2012 Cecafa Tusker Senior Challenge Cup they hosted.
Kasule said it is possible to host the AFCON if Uganda and Kenya jointly launch a bid, noting that the chances are higher since jointly the two countries can meet the demands needed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
“We have the talent in the region and we have what it takes to host if we put in a joint bid,” said Kasule, who said Kenya was already in support of the plan.
He said they have already tabled the proposal to the government because for any nation to bid for hosting rights, the respective government must support such a massive undertaking.

Kasule said the government, through the minister of sports Charles Bakkabulindi, already told them it was a great idea, but they were waiting for a concrete answer to go ahead with this plan.
Ethiopia and Sudan are the only countries in the region that have hosted Africa’s biggest football showpiece since it began. Sudan staged the event in 1962 and 1970, while the Ethiopians played host in 1968 and 1976.
The 2013 AFCON kicks off South Africa on Saturday, while the 2015 tournament has already been awarded to Morocco.
The 2017 edition will be staged in Libya.
