The Zimbabwe National Editors Forum (Zinef) yesterday mourned the passing on of journalist Zororo Makamba, who became the first victim of the deadly coronavirus in the country.

“Zinef sends its condolences to the Makamba family and the media industry at large. Makamba had a bright future in the industry and his void will certainly be felt,” Zinef said in a statement yesterday.

“It is unfortunate that his death comes at a time that the nation is seeking practical interventions to prevent and combat cases of infection with the deadly virus.”

Zinef urged various organisations and the media to ensure staff safety by providing safety clothing to prevent people from contracting the virus.

“Journalists and health workers are in the frontline of the pandemic. To this end, Zinef urges all authorities within the media industry to implement measures that will ensure the safety of media practitioners and support staff,” the Editors’ Forum said.
