Delegates at the Zanu PF Masvingo provincial conference held in the ancient town on Monday refused to discuss the fate of party officials fingered by whistleblower websiteWikiLeaks, attacking President Robert Mugabe, at the party’s national conference agenda in Bulawayo next month.
Zanu PF Masvingo provincial chairman Lovemore Matuke said the WikiLeaks issue was not raised during the conference, because it was “overlooked”.
“There were no WikiLeaks discussions. Nobody talked about it. It was overlooked,” said Matuke. Party insiders said the contentious issue was not on the provincial conference agenda.
“The issue was just swept under the carpet. Nobody dared to raise the motion. This is because it will claim the scalps of senior party members,” a top Zanu PF member who attended the conference said.
He said Zanu PF factions in the province, for once, were unanimous on the issue, preferring to put the WikiLeaks scandal off the agenda of the conference as discussing it would have seen the matter being raised at the national congress slated for Bulawayo next month.
Matuke added: “Chief among some of our resolutions, we reaffirmed our support for President Mugabe’s candidature.

“There was also the issue of primary elections, where candidates were told to stop campaigning until a date has been set.”
Among the top officials exposed by WikiLeaks are Vice- President Joice Mujuru, and politburo members Jonathan Moyo, Saviour Kasukuwere and Sikhanyiso Ndlovu.
