The long-awaited beauty pageant — which was earlier postponed to tomorrow to pave way for the Harare International Carnival — is running under the theme Beauty with Brains.

A representative of the Miss Universities Zimbabwe Trust, Christabel Zvinavashe, told NewsDay that they were looking for young women who could be role models in society.

“We are exploring the brains within the beauty to tap the value since Miss Universities should be a role model associated with success in society,” she said.

This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better after a year of re-strategising and rebranding.

“We have rebranded and re-strategised so this year’s beauty pageant is going to be an old thing with a different fare. We want it to be seen and felt,” Zvinavashe said.

The winner will take over the crown from the reigning queen, Valerie Chingozho, who won the pageant in 2013, and drive away with a car.

The competition was not held last year, but this year’s edition is expected to be tougher as the beauty queens will have to pass through three competitive segments.

Entertainment will be provided by Roki, Ex-Q, Nutty O and Taurai Mandebvu, among others.
