MASVINGO Provincial Affairs minister Shuvai Mahofa has reportedly been hospitalised at a private hospital in Harare, over an undisclosed ailment. Staff Reporter
Mahofa (74) has lately been visibly struggling to officiate at State functions due to old age and ill health.
Zanu PF chief whip and former Masvingo provincial chairperson Lovemore Matuke told NewsDay he had heard the report, but was yet to verify it.
“Someone called me today and told me that Mai Mahofa was not feeling well, I am still verifying. If it is true, I wish her a quick recovery,” Matuke said.
A politburo member who declined to be namedsaid: “I don’t have much information on that, I just heard that she is unwell, but I spoke to her three days ago . . . she was very ok.” In April, Mahofa struggled to read President Robert Mugabe’s official Independence Day speech, which was prepared in English.

In July, Mahofa requested that her Benjamin Burombo House office in Masvingo be moved from the second floor to the ground floor because she was having trouble climbing the steep stairs.
In August this year, Mahofa struggled to lay wreaths on graves of provincial heroes in Masvingo and declined an invitation to deliver her speech at the podium.
