GOSPEL music prodigy, Kudzai Nyakudya’s recent engagement of popular apostolic choral group, Vabati VaJehovha, on his latest seven-track album Pfumo Rinobaya, released a fortnight ago, appears to have paid off in light of the generous airplay it has been receiving and the response by fans.

The 12-member apostolic group featured on the song Nguva Yakwana, which was fused with drums to give it a unique flair, on Nyakudya’s 11th album in a career spanning more than 12 years.

“I did a number of collaborations with other local artistes and I thought of engaging Vabati VaJehovha, whose accapella music is unique.

To add flavour on the song, we added some drums and it came out well. We have a good working relationship and I will be happy to be part of their projects as well,” Nyakudya said.

He is not the only musician to collaborate with Vabati VaJehovha. Recently Charles Charamba did a song titled Mucherechedzo Vekunamata with the group.

Vabati VaJehovha lead vocalist, Richard Magaya said the collaboration denotes the unity between local gospel musicians.

“This is what unity is all about within the gospel fraternity. The collaboration with Kudzi Nyakudya shows that there are other artists who admire our work. Kudzi has been asking us to feature on some of his songs and we are glad that it happened. We are preaching the same gospel and we serve the same God,” he said.

Some of the songs on Nyakudya’s latest album are Mwari VaAbraham, Ndiyeyu Jesu and Pfumo Rinobaya among others.

Since breaking into the limelight, Nyakudya became shone on the gospel scene because of his great voice that sounds like South Africa’s Lundi Tymara, who he said he draws inspiration from.

Some of his popular albums include Kudzai Ishe, Hallelujah, Ini Naye-Story of My Life, Gadziriro and Mabasa.
