HARARE, Apr. 27 (NewsDay Live) — Police in Gweru have launched an urgent manhunt for suspects travelling in a Ford Everest who are allegedly circulating counterfeit United States currency across the city.
The alert was issued on Sunday by the ZRP Gweru District Community Relations Liaison Office, following a report that the group allegedly defrauded a retail shop in Athlone suburb at about 6pm on April 26.
According to the police, the suspects are using a mid-size seven-seater SUV with registration number AHH 0950 and were last seen passing fake US$100 notes.
Police urged residents, particularly business owners and cashiers, to exercise caution when handling high-denomination notes from unknown sources.
They advised the public to carefully inspect bills for standard security features, including watermarks, embedded security threads and colour-shifting ink.
Authorities said anyone approached by people attempting to use suspicious currency, or anyone who spots the vehicle, should report the matter to the nearest police station immediately.

Residents have also been encouraged to share the warning widely to help prevent further financial losses in the district.
